Language and culture are important elements of an educational program. Students from linguistically cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds are growing faster than any student group in North Dakota schools. Many of these students qualify as limited English proficient (LEP) or English Language Learners (ELL). ELLs make up over five percent of the total school enrollment. This number continues to increase as the total enrollment for school districts in North Dakota decreases. The Bilingual and Language Acquisition Office provides services and oversight related to second language acquisition for school district personnel, parents, students and others. These services include technical, professional development, funding and other resources. |
