On February 3, 2004, the Department of Public Instruction received and accepted the final draft of the revised content standards in English language arts from the standards drafting committee and the project editor. These revised content standards have been developed according to State protocols. The Department of Public Instruction will proceed to incorporate additional sections into the content standards document, including an introduction, glossary, appendix, index, and support materials. The Department will release the completed content standards document immediately following the completion of these sections. These content standards supersede the 1996 English language arts content standards. Any future curriculum development, mapping or assessment alignment activities, including the alignment for the North Dakota State Assessment, will be based on these standards. The Department of Public Instruction anticipates that by August 2004 corresponding final revisions to the achievement standards in English language arts will be completed and joined with these content standards into a final, unified document. At that time the State Superintendent will issue a formal statement promulgating the North Dakota Content and Achievement Standards: English Language Arts, August 2004. That approval notification will complete the revision process for the English language arts content and achievement standards. The new content and achievement standards will then be final and will undergo no further revision until the next scheduled review cycle in 2009. All the files listed below are in PDF format. |
